History

Curl Curl Youth Club was formed in 1958 and 2018 was the clubs 60th anniversary.  It fields teams in the Manly Warringah Soccer competition and we have members from Under 6 to Over 45 in the mixed, men’s and ladies competitions.

Our Club continues to expand and we had 1378 playing members for the 2021 season in 99 teams.  In addition we had over 260 registered coaches, managers and volunteers.  We are now the 5th largest club in the Manly Warringah competition.

Our home fields are at Abbott Road in North Curl Curl where we have 2 full size pitches and various pitches for the younger age groups. We also have the use of another full-size pitch on the south side of the lagoon at Adams St.

We had fantastic floodlighting installed in 2010 covering the entire Abbott Rd area. Our next project is a new clubhouse which is at the DA stage and installation of lighting at Adam St.

Player Development

The focus at Curl Curl is on developing our young players and so in 2013 we commenced Junior Development Training for U6-U10 on a Monday night at the futsal courts in Harbord. This program was extremely well received and has been continued and expanded ever since.  It encompasses a program for U6 - U11 age groups as well as an extension program for U12 and above and 2 dedicated girls sessions for W8-11 and W12- W14. It is run at Abbott Rd.

The program is supported by Diamond Blue Financial Services and Mike Pawley Sports and this allows us to minimise the cost to players for the program.  It will return for its 10th season in 2022.

Coach Education and Mentoring
At Curl Curl we are committed to increasing the level of coach education and support at our club.  Curl Curl presents its own grassroots and skill training courses and we strongly encourage our coaches to attend the course relevant to the age group with which they are involved. Our coaches can also access, free of charge, the courses conducted by the MWFA.

Curl Curl was a founding member of the MWFA Club Coach Coordinator program which provides mentoring, education and support particularly for our newer coaches, including evening workshops targeting the different age group stages.

Curl Curl was afforded an incredible opportunity in 2020, being asked to speak at the annual Football NSW Coaching Conference about the CCC program as implemented at Curl Curl, an event attracting over 1200 delegates from around the country.  The implication is that the way we support and develop our parent coaches is a leading example across the state. This is an incredible endorsement of our youth coaching program, recognising our excellent work in supporting and developing our volunteer parent coaches. Congratulations to Gareth Banks, the Junior/Youth Coaching Director in 2020, and our coaching committee.

Committee
We have a strong committee, many of whom have been on the committee some years, however, we are always keen for new committee members.  There are lots of roles both big and small so please give a thought to helping out.
