Working with Children

Child Protection in Local Football

Child protection is a complex subject with a number of strategies involved. It includes policies and practices put in place to keep children safe from harm, from physical, sexual or emotional abuse, or neglect.

Child protection legislation sets out how child abuse should be reported and investigated, and imposes obligations on people dealing with children.

Everyone working with children under the age of 18 in our Club will need to do one of the two following steps. This includes coaches, trainers, managers, referrees and committee members.

1. Working With Children Check

ALL Coaches/Managers/Trainers of Junior (U/6 to U/11) and Youth (U/12 to U18) teams and any adult teams with players under 18 years of age must have a Working With Children Check (WWCC) performed and obtain a WWC number - EXCEPT IF they themselves are under 18.

The Working With Children Check (WWCC) is free for volunteers and in 2020 costs $80 for paid workers (eg. paid trainers)

To get the Working With Children Check done:

1. Go to http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check and click on the blue "Start Here" button.

2. Follow the instructions and complete the application. You will receive an application number.

3. Take the application number to a NSW Motor Registry, RMS Agency, or a Service NSW office with photo ID to prove your identity.

4.  You will be emailed your WWC number (usually within a few days but allow up to 4 weeks).  Look out for an email from WWCCNotification@kids.nsw.gov.au.  Please notify the club registrar of your WWC number once you have it.

2. FNSW Member Protection Declaration

ALL Coaches/Managers/Trainers of Junior and Youth teams that are under 18 years old themselves must complete a Football NSW Member Protection Declaration.

Football NSW wants all Junior and Youth coaches/manaagers/trainers to be covered by either the WWCC or their Member Protection Declaration. The Football NSW Member Protection Declaration Form can be found here. It is only one page and easy to fill out.  When you have completed the form, scan it and email it back to the club registrar at registrar@curlcurlyouthclub.com.au
