Goalkeeping Coaching at Abbott Rd
Thursday 12th August, 6.30 – 8.00, 13 years and over.
Thursday 5th August, 6.30 - 7.30, 12 years and under.
Our goalkeeping coaches Graeme Mahn and Karl Ackermann will be conducting these sessions and are also inviting coaches to come along and observe.
Players should bring a ball.
In the event of wet weather check the website.
If you've got a player who shows no real ability, but while you've been with him he's risen, you start to lean on that - you're part of that. You get the feeling: Hey, I helped this bloke to succeed a little.
Jack Gibson, legendary rugby league coach.
I am arranging for the Club to host a Grassroots Coaching Course on Wednesday 17th March at the Abbot Rd fields from 6-9pm.
This is an entry level coaching course specifically for coaching kids up to 10 years of age.
We ran this course 2 years ago and I had lots of positive feedback. The course is free and everyone who completes the course receives a certificate and an excellent coaching handbook, which is useful well beyond dealing with 10 year olds.
We require between 16 and 24 people to attend so please respond as soon as possible to paul_and_suzie@hotmail.com if you wish to attend.
Obviously it will reflect badly on the Club if we request a qualified coaching instructor to conduct the course and half the applicants don’t turn up, so please let me know if circumstances change.
This is open to anyone coaching, assisting or planning to in the future.
Please note you are expected to dress appropriately for light training as you will be asked to participate in the sort of drills you will be learning to coach.

2009 Coaching Awards
Youth Licence
Congratulations to Ray Gould on completing the MWFA Youth Licence during the off-season.
Junior Licence
Also to Aaron Kemp, U7 Kookaburras Coach, who completed the Junior Licence
Basic Skills Certificate
Last season (2008), we introduced bronze, silver and gold level Basic Skill Certificates open to all, but primarily aimed at the Under9s and Under10 girls who will be playing fully competitive football for the first time next season. Everyone passed at least bronze level and we plan to continue with this again in 2009.
Coaching Survey
Thanks to all the coaches who have returned the coaching survey - keep them coming ! The combined results will be published soon.
Penalties
Like it or not penalties decide the outcome of many matches and for Seniors semi-final football can mean the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Read on for a variety of views on penalties.
Coaches and Managers Thankyou Evening - Saturday 16th August
We hope as many of you as possible will attend this event and take the chance to catch up with the committee and the other coaches and managers. Exchange ideas, raise any concerns, but primarily eat, drink and enjoy the event as a small reward for your efforts.
Small-Sided Games
The MWFA are probably implementing SSGs at Under6 and Under7 level next season and are asking for feedback from their members. This will involve 4 v 4 or 5 v 5 games using pop-up goals with no goalkeepers. For more information on SSGs visit the FFA website under links.
2008 Coaching Awards

I had a few enquiries about the Youth Licence earlier in the season, but there is still no news from the MWFA on when the next one will be run. Rest assured, I will be letting everyone know as soon as I hear anything.
